This ritual prayer, the five dailies, comprise ancient forms: standing, bowing, prostrating, sitting. There is standing in the afternoon prayers and there is standing in the optional night prayers.
What Mercy would one be seeking in the middle of the night? Perhaps forgiveness from sins, perhaps forgiveness for ingratitude amid a flood of blessings, perhaps foregoing a reckoning and being admitted to paradise without an accounting.
How elite. It reminds me of a CEO who closes all deals around the country in person; but because there was such a strong relationship with the patron till that point, the deal is done before the CEO even arrives.
May Almighty Allah perfect our relationship with Him.
110- Abu Bakr bin Musa narrated that ‘Abdullah bin Omar, God be pleased with him, once explained that the Qur’anic verse: ‘He who worships devoutly during the hours of the night, prostrating himself or standing up (in devotion), who heeds the call of the hereafter, and hopes to win the mercy of his Lord,’ (Qur’an 39:9) refers to ‘Uthman, God be forever pleased with him.
